The North Texas–Rice football rivalry is a college football rivalry game between two universities, the University of North Texas Mean Green and the Rice University Owls. The current winner is North Texas Who Won 41-17 against Rice

History[edit]

The two teams first met on November 10, 1988 at Rice Stadium in Houston, Texas. At the time, the Mean Green were members of the Southland Conference while the Owls were members of the Southwest Conference. The game ended in a 33–17 victory for North Texas. The two teams would not play each for another 20 years, playing on September 27, 2008 at Rice Stadium. The Mean Green were members of the Sun Belt Conference while the owls were members of Conference USA. The game ended in a 77–20 victory for the Owls and is considered to be one of the worst losses in history for North Texas football.[1] North Texas joined Conference USA prior to the start of the 2013 season, joining Rice in the conference's West Division. The two teams have played one another every year since then.
