Northwest Post-Grunge is a compilation album produced by Jonathan Boldt of Elemental Records and features songs from 17 bands in 5 different cities of 3 different states. It is notable for its audacious attempt to forge a collection of "post-grunge" artists in the wake of Kurt Cobain's death in 1994. According to one source, the artists failed to attract international success enjoyed by earlier grunge acts.[1]
The record has been described as a compilation of Northwest artists leaning toward "funk and danceability",[2] while another review reminds the listener of Elemental Records' intent to display the Northwest's "strong rock scene."[3] The review continues by noting the album ranges from "heavy guitar riffs to funky horns to melodic industrial grooves." The standout tracks according to Gavin Magazine were by Glowing Corn, Floater, Nero's Rome, Running With Scissors, Rorschach Test, and Imij.[3]
In contrast, one record review notes the Pacific Northwest is "quickly becoming the place for really hip compilation albums that deliver huge bang for the buck." The review gives high praise to Floater's song Godgun, describing the track as a "dynamic diatribe about the brainless, inhuman, unfeeling power a gun can give someone. The review continues by noting the leading track is by Artis the Spoonman, a favorite from the Oregon Country Fair that was made popular by his appearance in Soundgarden's music video Spoonman.
