Glowing Corn, was an American rock band from Eugene, Oregon. The band, consisting of Jimmy Boyer and Kevin "Bingo" Richey, was described as a "punk rock sensation" that performed between the years 1994 and 1997.[1] In 1994, the group released their limited edition vinyl EP. The EP was described as featuring songs with remote vocals "as if sung through a dense black cloud," even dual vocals "sung an octave apart," lending "a certain quirky affability." The instruments were described as playing "backwards guitar solos" and "highly syncopated drum patterns." The reviewer concluded that if the band focused on refining their vocal delivery and ensemble presentation, their future would be promising.[2] The band appeared on the Northwest Post-Grunge compilation by Elemental Records, and their track "Cynemologous" was highlighted as a standout track and favorite by reviewer Rob Fiend of the Gavin Report.[3]
Jimmy Boyer also played with Jeffery Fredericks' Clamtones, and after Glowing Corn, formed the Freak Mountain Ramblers group with fellow bandmate Bingo.[4] Boyer died on January 21, 2016, at the age of 47. He was inducted into the Oregon Music Hall of Fame in 2017.[5]
