Numan Ismail Abdul Qader (Arabic: نعمان إسماعيل عبد القادر ) is a writer and storyteller, born in the city of Kafr Qasim, bordering the West Bank and located east of Jaffa, whose name was associated with the massacre that took place on October 29, 1956.[1]

His life[edit]

Numan Belongs to a prominent family. His grandfather, Haji Abd al-Qadir, had been a soldier in the Ottoman Empire, where he worked as an officer in the Military Police, and he obtained the rank of Yuzbashi, which corresponds to the rank of captain today. His father believed in university studies, and that is why the children grew up in a science-loving home. They graduated from institutes and universities after obtaining higher university degrees, and most of them entered the teaching line. He was schooled in primary schools by a group of teachers from his village and neighboring villages. He graduated from the comprehensive high school, then joined the Institute of Arab Teacher Education at Beit Pearl College and obtained a certificate of senior qualification, specializing in the teaching of Arabic language and literature, He started his teaching career in the Bedouin "Abu Qurainat" clan in the Negev (an-Naqab) region, and witnessed first-hand the suffering of the Bedouin citizens and their harsh living conditions and the attempts to displace them from their lands. Then he was transferred to teach in the Arab elementary and preparatory schools of Lod, where he spent six years there, and then transferred to the preparatory schools of his hometown, Kafr Qasim. He continued his university education and he obtained his Bachelor's degree in 1995. He joined Bar-Ilan University and obtained a master's degree in Arabic Language and Literature in 2002. He has worked as a lecturer in several colleges, including Beit Pearl College for Arab Teacher Education since 2003, and the Ahlia Arab College. He worked as a guide for the Arabic language in the schools of the Central District. He worked for a long time as a country guide in middle schools on the subject of learning through scientific research and by developing higher-order thinking skills. He was named Person of the Year 2010 from the Personality Choice Foundation and the Statenet Institute, for his work. He is still working as a lecturer for Arabic language and literature at the College of Key in the city of Beersheba in the south in the Negev region.

His creativity and literary production[edit]

He worked as the editor-in-chief of the magazine "Al-Mizan", which was suspended due to financial reasons. He is now a member of the editor of the cultural magazine "Al Shorouk" and has published most of his writings in daily and weekly Arab newspapers and literary websites on the Internet. He was famous for writing a realistic and symbolic short story that sheds light on the life of the Arab minority within the Green Line and highlights the civilizational, cultural and psychological conflict among the Arab citizen. He was also interested in writing stories for adults and children and songs for children, and he established a special center for creative writing for children called “Hala Center for Children’s Literature”. Some of his works were translated into English and Hebrew, and he wrote many literary and critical articles. He participated in many literary seminars, and gave many lectures in various Arab schools and lectures on children’s literature. Besides all this, he has translated some books from English into Arabic and Hebrew. And contributed to the issuance of many books and research.
