O'Donnell Group Limited is a private limited company based in the United Kingdom. It specialises in running services such as Now Mobile, a 4G network and also Triniton, a closed source operating system based on GNOME.
2010: The beginning[edit]
The company originally started as a fantasy company, to entertain the likes of himself. However, the current boss of the group, took things seriously. The current boss came out with a vision, and that was to make sure that all the people around the world, united together, to come out with the best ideas, for the best products and services across the world.
2011: Getting serious, just got fun[edit]
The companies vision was of course to get their products and services around the world, and also at a low cost and also making sure that the fellow communities have a say in what the services should include and any further improvements to their services and products. The company then introduced a so called "Work For Fun" internship scheme, which shows new students the ropes at the company and how fun it can be when you get things done well.
2012 - 2014: The digital age[edit]
From 2012, the company introduced a revolutionary mobile network, Vype Mobile. This was a new mobile virtual network operator which had services in the United Kingdom, offering super fast 4G services, on behalf of EE's mobile network.
In 2013, they began the phaseover to Now Mobile, which would then shortly become the new face and brand of Vype.
In 2014, the phase was complete and then Now Mobile was fully working and operational in four countries:
- United Kingdom
- Australia
- Poland
- United States
Now Mobile is now operating 4G services in the countries listed above.
Now Mobile operate these following services:
- Now Music (formerly Vype Music)
- Now Video (formerly Vype Movies)
- Now Game Center (formerly Vype Gaming)
- Now Social (formerly Vype Socialnow)
- Now Callback Record (formerly Vype Record Your Call)
The following services were not being taken into Now Mobile, therefore are now defunct:
- Vype Metr
- Vype Travelwise (talks are in place to resume this to Now Travel)
- Vype Cinematic
- Vype VoIP
- Vype Networking+
- Vype Hub
There are no plans for the MVNO to incorporate these services, except for Vype Travelwise, as this was requested after high demands from customers.
Criticism[edit]
During the time frame of 2010 to 2014, the company has suffered through a few complaints.
2010
In 2010, the company faced a fine of £25,000 by the European Court for pirating software into an alpha build of it's popular operating system, Triniton.
2011
In 2011, there was wide criticism regarding the first stable build of their Triniton operating system. There were claims and allegations made that not only did the operating system not only boot incorrectly sometimes after installation, but also rendering the PC unusable.
The development team identified the operating system as Triniton 1.0.0 "Launchpad". Shortly after receiving the complaints, all Triniton users were sent a recovery DVD, with a newer version of the operating system, which was titled, Triniton 2.0.2 "Nightshade".
2012
In 2012, the company was blamed for the major UK mobile network operator, O2, for temporarily having downtime.
During this time, Vype Mobile (now Now Mobile), was "piggybacking" off major UK network O2 for their GSM & data services. This was an unknown technical fault at the O2 side of the spectrum.
Vype gave away free data, calls and texts to the 95% of customers in which were affected
2013
In 2013, the Vype devision was filled with complaints due to the switch over from "piggybacking" O2 to moving to major operator, EE. There were 204 outages in one single year, which caused 1,204 customers to leave the network during that time.
