The Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation (doing business as OCIC Group or simply as OCIC), (Khmer: ក្រុមហ៊ុន អូវើស៊ី ខេមបូឌាន អ៊ិនវេសមេន ខបភើរេសិន, UNGEGN: Krumhun Viniyoktun Anikajun Kampuchea) is a Privately held company and a member of Canadia Group. As of 2022, OCIC employs indirectly over 15,000 people through more than 100 companies and has over twelve business segments, including property development, real estate, education, healthcare, airport, distribution, construction & engineering, retail, hospitality, media, leisure and agriculture.[1]
History
Tracing its roots to Canadia Group, the Overseas Cambodian Investment Corporation Group (OCIC Group) was established to steward all diversified non-financial assets, with Canadia Investment Holding (CIH) focused on developing financial assets and services such as Canadia Bank, Cana Securities, Cambodia Post Bank, Funan Micro-Finance, and Sovannaphum Life Assurance.[2]
Since its inception, OCIC Group is said to have invested approximately US$5 billion dollars into the construction sector of Cambodia over the last two decades with flagship infrastructure projects like Koh Pich, Chroy Changvar Satellite City, Norea Island and, most recently, the Techo International Airport.[3]
Business segments
OCIC and its affiliates have invested in various businesses as below:
- Property Development Group: Focuses on the leasing of assets, such as international exhibition and convention centers to SOHOs to external clientele.
- Real Estate Group: Handles the overall asset management of roughly 50 real estate projects across Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, Sihanoukville and throughout Cambodia.
- Education Group: Focuses on the development of educational facilities such as CamTech University, the Canadian International School of Phnom Penh and the Ecole Française Internationale de Phnom Penh.
- Healthcare Group: Handles investments in medical facilities such as InterCare Hospital and the Olympia Medical Hub.
- Airport Group: Handles the development of the Techo International Airport located 20km from Phnom Penh’s city center, developed by Cambodia Airport Investment Co, Ltd. (an OCIC subsidiary).[4]
- Distribution Group: Handles investments in domestic ventures and facilitates foreign retail distribution.
- Construction & Engineering Group: Handles investment in building construction, civil engineering to construction materials and leasing with projects such as bridges, flyovers and other public infrastructure projects throughout Cambodia.
- Retail Group: Develops partnerships in businesses dealing with luxury jewelries and watch brands. Its business portfolio also includes other retail businesses such as Sorya Centerpoint Mall, Cambodia's first shopping mall.
- Hospitality Group: Involved in the development and management of hotels throughout Cambodia through Dara Hotels Group, home to renowned local hotel brand such as the Independence Hotel in Sihanoukville.
- Media Group: Primarily involved in investments that cater to a diverse variety of products and services ranging from printing to advertising materials.
- Leisure Group: handles the development and management of recreation, entertainment, sports, and tourism (REST)-related products and services with products such as Coconut Park and theme parks like Dinosaurs Alive.
- Agriculture Group: Primarily involved in the rice cultivation industry through its flagship products the award-winning rice producer Golden Daun Keo Rice Mill.
Property development and construction are by far the two main sectors of businesses among these.[5]
Timeline
- 31 March 2000 - OCIC is established to steward all non-financial assets and services of Canadia Group.
- 2003 - Sorya Shopping Center, Cambodia's first shopping center.
- 2006 - 100 hectare Diamond Island Satellite City, the first satellite city developed by OCIC.
- 2009 - Canadia Tower opened its doors for business.
- 2011 - Launching of the 260 hectare Chroy Changvar Satellite City, OCIC's biggest satellite city venture to date.
- 2011 - Ventures into the education sector with its first educational facility, the Canadian International School of Phnom Penh.
- 2019 - OCIC has been granted an airport concession for the development of Phnom Penh's newest airport, the Techo International Airport.
- 2020 - A new, modern website has been launched at https://www.ocic.com.kh/
- 2020 - OCIC celebrates 20 years in the industry.
- 2021 - OCIC announces the official launch of the All-New OCIC Mobile App.
- 2020 - OCIC launched Cambodia's largest international convention & exhibition center at Chroy Changvar Satellite City east of Phnom Penh.
- 2022 - OCIC together with Accor partnered to introduce ibis budget hotels to Cambodia marking the official entry into the Southeast Asian market.[6]
Awards
In 2022, OCIC became the first ever inductee into the Hall of Fame Award of the Cambodia Real Estate Award (CREA) in recognition of the contribution of a real estate leader who contributed to the development of Cambodia’s real estate sector.[7]
2022 – OCIC’s received the most coveted 2022 Cambodia Real Estate Personality of the Year Award in recognition of its substantial impact in the Asian real estate, construction, and infrastructure sectors presented by The Property Guru.[8]
