OOlsm is an online social media and social networking service owned by Tunisian students Youssef Achour and Mohamed Aziz Ben Ghezala. Founded in 2022 by the two students, its name is an abbreviation of OOOld social media. This social networking service is initially available online or on Android devices. As of 8 August 2022, the app is in internal beta testing phase and announced to be rolling out publicly on 22 August 2022.

OOlsm can be accessed from devices with Internet connectivity, such as personal computers, tablets and smartphones. After registering, users can create a profile revealing information about themselves. They can post text, photos and multimedia which are shared with any other users with different privacy settings modifiable by the user himself. Users can also communicate directly with each other, join common-interest rooms or publicly available rooms to any registered user.

Unlike other social media services, OOlsm provides pretty good features at a free plan which can be greatly upgraded by moving to a paid plan made mainly to support the founders of the app in this project.

History[edit]

July 2022: Python-based server hosted on Replit[edit]

The first release of OOlsm was hosted on Replit servers, using Python (programming language) for back-end server management. The version was fully developed by Mohamed Aziz Ben Ghezala in 14 days, and wasn't promoted as since it was a very basic version that allows logging-in, signing-up and uploading posts discussing with other users. It had 5 active users as an average. Later after around 13 days since its launching, Youssef Achour applied to join the staff, which by then consisted of the founder and 2 Web developers, initially as a designer/tester, and designed the logo and banner for the app. Later on, Youssef suggested switching to Firebase for hosting the website and for the users' authentication, database and storage as its more secure. Aziz liked the idea and consequently started using Firebase Hosting while fully rebuilding the website to use Firebase's services, while also keeping another version of the website on Replit managed by the other 2 Web developers.

August 2022: Staff getting smaller, app getting better[edit]

As Youssef didn't have much to do, he got a new big role which consisted in building an Android version of OOlsm suitable for low-end devices too, like the website. Due to lack of serious work, the other 2 Web developers left the staff, leaving only Youssef and Aziz working on the project; tho that didn't even affect the progress of the project. Currently, both the Android app and the website are being built while giving up on the idea of keeping the Replit version as it was useless, and the full release of both of these is set to be on the 22 August 2022.

Design Aspect[edit]

As the website is still under construction, no aspects of its design were revealed yet. Expect this section to change as soon as the release rolls out.

Privacy policy[edit]

OOlsm's data policy outlines its policies for collecting, storing, and sharing user's data. OOlsm enables users to control access to individual posts and their profile through privacy settings. The user's name and profile picture (if applicable) are public.

OOlsm's revenue depends on advertising using Google Ads services for both its mobile and web version. OOlsm maintains that it doesn't share users' personnal informations with anyone; not even the staff itself.
