OVOD is a solo project of Ivan Lavrov from St. Petersburg. The music contains the recording of analog synthesizers and guitars, passed through various hardware effects, field recordings and the manipulation of his own created samples. Most of the parties were recorded on the first take, which gives them natural sound and refers to the naive art and non-perfectionism. In the age of computer technologies and mass media imposed standards of audio albums, OVOD is trying to prevent your its recordings from overproducing, trying as much as possible to protect the tracks from computer processing and self-playing instruments, as well as from excessive using of compressors and limiters.[1]

Career[edit]

2015: Singles and the Between the Days album[edit]

DIGITAL DOWNLOAD, Private Release, 2015
“Between the Days”, an aural journey bearing a distinct sense of desolation, merges psychedelic, surreal and apocalyptic sound worlds that for the most part prove quite demanding and challenging in the end.[2]

2017: The Autumn Mornings album[edit]

Release date: April 5, 2017

Working under the moniker of OVOD, musician and composer Ivan Lavrov has offered an intriguing string of releases, ones that tie into the aesthetics and concepts of genres ranging from post-rock to experimental to ambient, but never once strictly abiding by any particular one. This has resulted in releases that offer a much more interesting headspace to get lost in that what one would expect from just one single genre.

Autumn Mornings seems to move away from the more versatile and varied release of Between The Days, and whilst that might raise an eyebrow of caution, the result has worked incredibly well. Across four tracks, we’re presented with an incredibly heavy and thick sounding synthetic ambient notion, one that pulses and ebbs into the scene, feeling oddly stark and cold and wonderfully futuristic. Each track connects into each other, creating a larger sense of an album experience, whilst also feeling individually unique in comparison to each other as they flow into their own concept. It’s a wonderful balance between creating a larger picture, but also having a sense of versatility and difference between the tracks.

Whilst Autumn Mornings is perhaps a little less adventurous than some of Lavrov’s previous releases, there’s a very strong sense of a larger context being present on this album, something that was perhaps missing on those earlier albums. Across the four tracks, we’re presented with something quite dark and unsettling, and as the tracks morph into other ideas and concepts, those same feelings remain ever present, continuing that journey as we navigate along it. Whilst a little unsettling, the overall experience is one that is oddly medative in its own right.[3]

2019: The Forest Thoughts album[edit]

Just announced. To be released on the 1st of August, 2019.[4].
It’s ambient music full of psychedelic and folk music inspirited melodies, symbiosis of organic and artificial sounds made with modular synthesizers. Main idea of the album is creating a trance and meditative effect for a listener. Ambient textures, folk melodies on string instruments, grainy repetitive loops and fuzzy tones create a psychedelic emergent effect. Forest Thoughts is a number of stories from old man notebook who has lost in the forest. Flashback in his memory create impulses to rethink of his history.[5]
