Oakley Kwon is an Australian actress of Vietnamese and Chinese descent.[1] She is a leader in public sector innovation and digital transformation, a lawyer,[2] a producer and diversity advocate. She won an award for her performance as Diane Tran in SBS, Matchbox Pictures Hungry Ghosts. She is the President of the QLD Community Television Association Inc.[3]
Early life[edit]
Oakley Kwon fled Vietnam at the age of two with her parents by boat.[4] They were running away from the Vietnam War. The captain of their boat never turned up. The people on the boat steered the boat themselves. Along the way, the boat engine stopped working. The boat drifted out at sea where they were intercepted by pirates.[4] Kwon and her family were rescued by Thai fishermen. They were detained in a Thailand refugee camp for two years. Australia then granted her family humanitarian visas to resettle in Australia.[5]
Kwon went to Australian National University.[6] She graduated with a Bachelor of Laws in 2010 and a Master of Laws.[6] In 2017, Kwon studied screen acting with Elizabeth Kemp in 2017.[7] She also trained with National Institute of Dramatic Art in the same year.[8]
Career[edit]
Kwon made her first screen appearance in the 2018 SBS series Homecoming Queens. In 2019, she appeared in one episode of Harrow and acted opposite Kerry Armstrong in Neighbours as the character Tanya Conlin.
Kwon appeared as a female Viet Cong fighter in the feature film Danger Close and also appeared as Angela Reynolds in the 2021 film Bloody Hell.
Kwon stars as Erica in the short film Memoir of Haunting. She also stars as Diane Tran in the Matchbox Pictures television mini-series Hungry Ghosts.[9]
