Initially, he played the violin from the age of 4 before deciding to take up the drums. As a teenager, Oded Kafri lived in Paris, where he also began his music studies and turned to Jazz and World music genres. In his 20s he became a celebrated session musician in Tel Aviv and played for artists such as Shalom Hanoch, Yossi Fine, The Idan Raichel Project and was the drummer of the big band of the Israeli live TV show Strictly Come Dancing in 2007. Then in 2008 he accompanied the Israeli singer David D'Or on his world tour.
In 2009 Kafri moved from Tel Aviv to London, where he played in Koby Israelite's band and performed in venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, or KOKO (Camden Palace). In February 2010, he played his first street performance in Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester. His street performances brought him worldwide recognition thanks to an ever-growing number of followers of his videos on YouTube and other social media platforms.[1] Kafri took also part as a performer at the Center Stage of NAMM in 2016.[2]
In 2007 he became a Mapex Drums endorser, until 2009. From 2012 on he became a Murat Diril Cymbals endorser.[3]
Oded Kafri performed his "Drum The World" program on the streets of the world for over a decade and has a significant amount of followers across Europe and in the UK. He has performed at venues such as KOKO, the Brixton Electric, and The Barbican, and has played some of the UK's and Europe's renowned festivals, including the London Jazz Festival for BBC Radio, Jazztage Dresden and a sold-out One Man Show at the Jerusalem Theatre.
He has released three studio albums, toured around the world and collaborated with artists such as Beardyman, Billy Cobham and Vieux Farka Touré.
