Odisha Administrative Service

Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) is a cadre of administrative officers in the state of Odisha. These officers are responsible for taking care of administration of Blocks, Sub Divisions, Tehsils and Districts in the state of Odisha. The highest post that could be achieved by an OAS officer is Special Secretary to Government of Odisha. The cadre strength of the service is 1273[1]. They are also eligible to be promoted to Indian Administrative Service after a service of 8 years.[2][3]

Fifty percent of these officers are directly recruited as Group A Gazetted officers by Odisha Public Service Commission in a three stage examination.[4] Remaining 50% are promoted from sub-ordinate services of Government of Odisha[4]. The candidate must be a graduate to be inducted into the service.

These officers are also deputed to different autonomous bodies under the State Government like Universities, Municipalities and Temple Trusts. They are also appointed into state public sector undertakings.
