Ofer Levy is an American physician-scientist and pediatrician whose research focuses on precision vaccinology. He is professor of Pediatrics, Harvard Medical School, Harvard University and Director, Precision Vaccines Program and Staff Physician at the Boston Children's Hospital[1][2] He is also an Associate Member of the Klarman Cell Observatory, Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard and The Broad Global Health Initiative.[3][4] He was also a member of the Food and Drug Administration advisory panel for coronavirus vaccines, and served as a special government employee and voting member of the FDA's VRBPAC.[5][6] His pioneering work in "precision vaccinology" aims to move beyond a "one-size-fits-all" approach to immunization by developing novel, age-specific vaccine components (adjuvants) and using systems biology to better understand immune responses in diverse populations.[7][8][9][10] He is also a frequent commentator on vaccine-related issues and has appeared in media outlets including the BBC, CNN, The New York Times, Scientific American, The Wall Street Journal, and National Geographic.[11][12] He has delivered two TED talks.[13][13]
Early life and education
Dr. Ofer Levy was born in New York City to artist Benjamin Levy and composer Hannah Levy. He attended the Bronx High School of Science in the Bronx in New York City. He earned a B.S. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University.[11][14] Levy then joined the MD/PhD program at the New York University School of Medicine. His doctoral research, supervised by Peter Elsbach and Jerrold Weiss, focused on antimicrobial proteins and peptides produced by neutrophils. Motivated by his wife Sharon’s career path, he pursued pediatrics. He completed his pediatric residency and fellowship at Boston Children's Hospital, Harvard Medical School.[14][10]
