History[edit]

Early years (2012–2015)[edit]

The band was formed in 2012 as an instrumental band with no lead vocalist or lyrics. During this time the members were Normunds Balodis, Kristaps Baķis (both still in the band), Matīss Kušķis, Oskars Sīpols, Raivo Balodis, Raivis Bēts. The band played local shows but didn't release any studio recordings during this time.

Gana (2015–2018)[edit]

By 2015 the band had lineup changes and Gatis Krievāns joined as rhythm guitarist, Oskars Dreģis joined as vocalist and Andis Zvejnieks joined as bass player. Founding members Kristaps Baķis and Normunds Balodis kept their roles as guitarist and drummer respectively. The band relocated from Ogre to Riga and begun working on their debut album "Gana".

In late 2016 the first single "nulle" was released and the band played shows in Latvia. The local Riga pub Aptieka (now defunct, it used the be a very famous pub that organized concerts and awards for the underground scene in Riga) awarded the band as "Heavy Band of the Year".[1]

In 2017 two more singles were released - "Pēdējais cēliens" and "Iļģuciema Velns". The album was released on June 29th and presented in Ģertrūdes ielas teātris (Ģertrūdes Street Theater), mixed and mastered by Kārlis Šteinmanis at KS Records and published by Grautinsh Records.

Vocalist Oskars Dreģis got nominated in the Annual Latvian Metal Music Awards in the category "Best Vocalists" and the band as a whole won the award in the category "Debut of the Year".[2]

In early 2018, Gana was nominated in the Annual Latvian Music Recording Awards in the category "Rock or Metal Album".[3]

Grimt (2018-present)[edit]

In late 2018, guitarist Gatis Krievāns left the band and Toms Gaļinauskis filled the role. Some shows were played locally in this new lineup before the band started to focus on writing a new album.

On June 29th, celebrating the 2 year anniversary of the debut album, the band revealed the plans for a second studio album publicly and said that tracking would start in the summer of 2019.

Later, on August 8th, 2019 the band published videos and photos on their Facebook page from Studija Gateris recording studio in Mārupe, Latvia featuring the band tracking the album. The album title was revealed on September 4th. In a live show on October 5th the band played three songs from Grimt for the first time - Viens, Trauksme and Vaidava celies! and on November 25th in Jelgava two more songs saw their debut - Māli and Rītausmas zirgs.

In March 15th, 2020 the band released Māli as a single and revealed that the artwork for all singles and the album is created by the artist Aigars Opincāns who also did all the artwork on the debut album. It was also revealed that the debut and upcoming albums were part of a trilogy which focused on the chemical elements oxygen, hydrogen and carbon respectively. The debut album revolved around oxygen and fire and the theme to Grimt was announced to be hydrogen and water.[4]

April 15th, 2020 saw the release of Trauksme, the second single from Grimt.[5]

On May 15th the whole album was released for digital download. The album is tracked and mixed by former guitarist Gatis Krievāns and mastered by TesseracT founder and guitarist Acle Kahney at 4D Sounds studio.[6]
