Olumuyiwa Isaac Ojo (23 September 1992), known professionally as Ojay, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and performing artist.[1] He went into full time music after completing his compulsory National Youth Service Corps in 2016, he is currently signed to JAEWIE A.O.B Owatz entertainment, a Lagos based promotional company.

Early life and education[edit]

Ojay was born in Ikirun, Osun state.[2] He also lived briefly in his home town Imesi-Ile, Osun state before moving to Lagos to complete his primary and secondary education at Wetland Comprehensive College Lagos. He proceeded to the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) North Cyprus in 2011 where he studied Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Although, Ojay's interest in music started at the age of 10 but he could not exhibit this because of his father's stance towards education.

Career[edit]

In one of his interviews with Eko FM and Galaxy Television[3] he maintained that the likes of Bob Marley, Lucky Dube and Beautiful Nubia influenced his interest in the industry. Ojay has since released a number of hit singles like "Take Over”[4] (featuring 2Tboiz), "Jonibi"[5] (featuring Danny S), "Baby Boo",[6] "Money Hanger",[7] "Silekun". Most of his videos are shot by Akin Alabi and whilst one of the track "Rockieman" in his debut EP "Feel Good" was shot by Clarence Peters.

In his interview with Punch newspaper,[1] he said he make meaningful music to draw attention. He has granted series of interviews to several Electronic and Print media.[8]

Artistry[edit]

Ojay described his style of music as Afrourban[9] (a mixture of Afrobeat, R&B, Highlife and Urban music) his lyrics are mostly written in English, Nigerian Pidgin and Yoruba but sometimes incorporates Igbo and Hausa languages.

Personal life[edit]

Ojay is also a blogger, he enjoys playing the piano, and in his spare time he is a physics teacher.
