Olanrewaju Smart is a Nigerian public servant, currently the Senior Special Assistant to the President of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu on Intergovernmental Affairs, and previously in the Nigerian House of Representatives, Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives).[1][2][3] and Ag. Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives[4][5].

Early life and education[edit]

Olanrewaju Smart was born in Epe, Lagos state.

Smart holds a Bachelor's degree in Educational Management with Economics from Lead City University, Ibadan, as well as a Master's degree and a Ph.D. in Educational Management from the same institution. Olanrewaju Smart is a Master of Public Administration (MC-MPA '25) Degree Candidate at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA.

He obtained a professional diploma in Public Relations from the London School of Public Relations, Kensington, London, and is an alumnus of the United States Department of State's Premier Professional Exchange Program - International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) DC, New Hampshire | Massachusetts| Kansas | North Carolina.[6]

He received an Advanced Certificate in Information Technology Management(ACITM) from Lagos City Computer College in 2005 after completing his secondary education at Epe Grammaer School, Epe Lagos.

Career[edit]

Smart was a Research Assistant with the House Committee on Education in the National Assembly during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) internship from October 2011 to October 2012, and Research & Media Assistant to the Minority, and later, Majority Leader the House from November 2012 to June 2019[7]

He was the Special Adviser on Political Matters at the Office of the Speaker from June 2019 to November 2020,[8] Deputy Chief of Staff from November 2020 to September 2022, and Chief of Staff from September 2022 to June 2023.[1] Following the election of Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen Ph.D. as Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, Smart served as Acting Chief of Staff from June 2023 to October 2023[4]

Smart was appointed by President Tinubu as Senior Special Assistant on Intergovernmental affairs. A role he currently holds[9]

As a public policy analyst, Smart has written several articles on governance and the Nigerian economy. [10] [11] [12]
