The history of Sri Sumangala College Old Boys’ Association dates back to 1922. Mr. Abeyseela Ginige, the then Principal foresaw the importance of forming an Association, composed of past pupils of the College, with the foremost objective of becoming one of the island’s premier Buddhist schools.[citation needed] SSCOBA was established on 28 October 1922.[1]

SSCOBA had drafted a more comprehensive Constitution[2] in 1981 and Mr. Wilson Kahandagamage was elected as its first Old Boy President by a constitutional amendment in 1985.[2]

SSCOBA Colombo Branch was inaugurated in 1986, with Dr. Malinga Fernando as the founding president[2] and in the SSCOBA Kandy Branch was established in 2001, with Dr. Ananda Gunasekara as the founding president.[2] Subsequently, the Junior OBA was established for Old Boys under 30 years in 1999.[3]

SSCOBA is governed by the Executive Committee, consisting of honorary officers (President, Joint Secretaries, Vice-Presidents, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, Editor, Advisors and ExCo members).
