The idea to record a cover album stemmed from guitarist Mark Templin, who believed it would serve as a fitting tribute to the bands that inspired the group while providing them with ample time to craft new original material for their future ninth album.

The recording process for Oldies, but Goldies! was a collaborative effort, with each band member selecting three songs for the tracklist. Each member chose songs that held personal significance to them, whether it was a track that resonated with them emotionally or one that showcased their musical prowess. Four singles were released: "The Wanton Song", "Holy Roller", "Outlaw" and "Sexy Sadie".
