Oleksandr Yakovych Konotopenko (Ukrainian: Олександр Якович Конотопенко; 14 October 1976, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky – 16 May 2018) was a Ukrainian military officer, a colonel of the Ukrainian Naval Infantry. He was a former commander of the 1st Marine Battalion, a participant in the Russo-Ukrainian War.
Biography[edit]
He was born on 14 October 1976 in the village of Novobohdanivka in Mykolaiv Oblast.
He studied at the Odessa Institute of Ground Forces, which he graduated in 1998. He began his service as a fire support platoon commander of the 40th Airborne Brigade. He served and was promoted to the rank of lieutenant commander of the battalion.
He commanded the 1st separate battalion of marines from 2010 to 2012.
From 2012, he served in the combat training department of the command of the Navy of Ukraine.
After evacuating from Crimea, he was engaged in the training of marines at the Shiroky Lan training ground, served as deputy commander of the 1st battalion in the 79th amphibious assault brigade.
In 2016, he was the head of the sniper training group (Command of the Naval Forces of Ukraine, military unit A0456).
He was buried in the village Novobohdanivka, Mykolaiv near his mother's grave.
