Yevhen Valentynovych Malyshev (born March 10, 2002, Kharkiv – died March 1, 2022, near Kharkiv) was a Ukrainian biathlete, serviceman, and participant in the Russian-Ukrainian War. He died during the Russian invasion of Ukraine while defending his hometown.

Biography[edit]

Malyshev was born in Kharkiv in 2002.

In the 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 seasons, he competed as part of the Ukrainian National Junior Biathlon Team. He participated in the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics in Lausanne, Switzerland. His coaches were Solodovnyk S.I. and Spitsyn V.E.[1]

Afterward, he served in the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a soldier under contract. He died on March 1, 2022, in a battle against Russian occupiers near Kharkiv while defending his homeland during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.[2][3]

Awards[edit]

The Order For Courage of the III degree (posthumously awarded in 2022) – for personal courage and selfless actions demonstrated in defense of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as for loyalty to the military oath.[4]
