Olivia Cheng is an American fashion designer. She is the founder of Dauphinette,[1]
Early life and education[edit]
Chang was born in Barrington, Illinois in 1998.[2] She graduated from New York University where she majored in business marketing.[3]
Career[edit]
A self-taught designer, Chang launched the Dauphinette website in 2018, when she was 19. The website focused on upcycled clothing when it launched, and later featured ready-to-wear.[4]
Cheng held her first fashion show in 2020. She also opened two brick and mortar stores in New York city without any outside investors. During the COVID-19 quarantine, Cheng began to experiment with resin by using it to encase flowers and fruits to create something new.
That same year, one of her designs would be featured in New York Magazine's holiday gift guide. Since its inception, Dauphinette has been featured in magazines such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, The New York Times, Elle, Refinery29, and more. Her resin designs, including resin chainmail overlays, have risen to popularity and have even been featured in tv shows such as How I Met Your Father. Her brand can currently be found in Nordstrom stores.[5] Cheng's work includes accessories such as jewelry and handbags. The most recent success for Olivia Cheng came when she was featured in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s most previous exhibit, In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, making her the youngest designer to be featured at the age of 23.
