Omnicare Cooperative
Omnicare Cooperative. a more cooperative way of doing things[1]

Omnicare Cooperative is the first social cooperative registered in the Island of Malta.

Originally founded and registered with the Malta Board for Cooperatives in September 2013 (Reg. No. 115). The initial idea of organizing a first Social Workers’ Cooperative in Malta has been originated by Mario John Gerada and Esmeralda Borg Azzopardi, both ex-trade unionists, in March 2013. The initial aim of the cooperative was to aid and organizing workers while promoting employability rights, skills and advocating the need of cooperation between various sectors in the industry.

Presently, Omnicare has a substantial growing membership list of workers and professionals in the services sectors for clerical work, home aid, security, management, health, sanitation and community sheltered homes management, both in Governmental and Private Services Sector. Cooperating towards creating a better, fairer working environment and to enhance the lives of our colleagues, members, customers, and the communities we serve.

Omnicare Cooperative aims at becoming the largest “Social Workers’ Cooperative” registered in Malta while serving as a catalyst for the development of the cooperative concept and cooperative movement both locally and abroad.

Cooperatives Malta (Kooperativi Malta) also aided the endorsement of Omnicare Cooperative [2] in the Maltese cooperative movement along with other cooperatives that currently operate in the Maltese Islands. A full list of the cooperatives involved in the Maltese Sector can be found under the Cooperative Directory,[3] that operates under the Board of Cooperatives as part of The Ministry for the Economy, Investment and Small Business which is currently led by Minister Dr Christian Cardona, who announced Omnicare Cooperative during a Press Conference[4] on May 5, 2014.
