Oncle Gilbert is a Welsh singer, musician and producer from Wales. Oncle has worked with several musicians and groups including Anthony Reynolds for an Amnesty International compilation album with his band Jack, The Afternoons, PUMK 2015 and fade files. Since 2018 he has remixed several tracks for the artist Beati Sounds in the dance genre.

Career

Oncle Gilbert's musical roots began at his family home at age 4. The family piano was too high, so he spent hours playing by ear and raising his hands above his head. This is when he learned to play by ear. He bought his first synthesizer / keyboard aged 14 from a student in Cardiff who was selling all his possessions to move to Papua New Guinea.

Oncle began playing with a band in high school called Panama. Then, while studying Physics and Computing Joint Honours at Cardiff University, he was discovered by Richard Griffiths The Afternoons after playing in a musical review, where he wrote songs about physics staff including W. G. Herrenden-Harker.

The Beersquits

Oncle Gilbert began performing his own material with guest 'computer operators' or a 'singing lady'. One such event at Clwb Ifor Bach where Edward Cook was operating the synths, resulted in Ed coining the name the beersquits.

The Kisschase

With Richard Griffiths and Dafydd Downs, Mark contributed to the early years of the group, perfecting their first demo tapes in Oncle Gilbert's 'Black Barn Studio'.

PUMK 2015

With Emily Denton, Courtney Odom et al.

Fade Files

2015 - Welsh Language / Bilingual musical group with Richard Philips. Their first single, 'Byth Yn Dod Lawr' was awarded single of the week ( Trac Yr Wythnos ) by BBC Radio Cymru.
