OneCharge is an American technology company that designs, engineers and distributes lithium-ion batteries and battery management systems for off-highway electric vehicles including material handling equipment and ground support equipment.[5][6][7][8] Its headquarters and main manufacturing site are located in Garden Grove, California.[9]
Overview[edit]
OneCharge was established in 2014 and opened its first manufacturing facility in 2016 in San Jose, CA.[1] The company moved to another facility in Irvine, CA in 2018 and in 2018 re-located again its new 50,000 square ft. manufacturing facility and main offices to Garden Grove, CA, tripling the footprint of its production space.[9][10][11]
In April 2021, OneCharge launched a new product line of the American Standard and 4500 Pallet Jack Series lithium batteries.[12]
In June 2021, it became publicly known that temporary short supply of components and materials for cells such as cobalt and lithium could affect lithium-ion batteries manufacturers, but the company reported that "it was fully stocked with all materials and supplies required for production and its manufacturing capabilities were fully utilized."[13]
Technology[edit]
The company's R&D department mainly designs and develops batteries based on Lithium Iron (Ferrum) Phosphate (LiFePO4) cells for Class I, II and III lift trucks and AGVs.[8] OneCharge batteries are monitored by the battery management system with data logging and Internet of Things capabilities.[6] Cells design includes several elements: the cathode, anode, electrolyte, and membrane.[14] According to Industry Today magazine, the LFP technology meets current OSHA's safety standards for forklift batteries.[15]
Industry applications[edit]
The organization primarily operates in the motive power / lithium industrial battery packs industry with the main focus on forklifts and other material handling equipment material.[1] From the outset, the company has been producing high capacity industrial lithium-ion batteries for material handling industry including industrial forklifts and lift trucks, heavy-duty cleaning equipment, automated guided vehicles (AGVs) and airport ground support equipment and other off-highway vehicles.[11] The technology is applied through various industries including third-party logistics and distribution centers, paper and packaging, fresh produce and farming, food and beverage, winemaking, diary and more.[16][17][18]
OneCharge's clients and partners include Spirit AeroSystems,[6] Allan Brothers,[19][7] Schneider Electric, forklift manufacturers Hyster-Yale Materials Handling,[20] Combilift,[21][22] and Aisle Master; and equipment dealers PAPÉ, NITCO and Eastern Material Handling, among others.[23][24]
