Graylog is a log management software company based in Houston, Texas.[1] Graylog, formerly Torch,[2] was founded in 2009 by Lennart Koopmann and began as an open-source project in Hamburg, Germany. The global headquarters are in Houston, Texas.[3]

Graylog centrally captures, stores, and enables real-time search and log analysis against terabytes of machine data from any component in the IT infrastructure and applications.[4][2] The software uses a three-tier architecture and scalable storage based on Elasticsearch.[5] Graylog has carved out a niche as being a fast, affordable and viable alternative to Splunk.[4][6][7][8]

Graylog released its first commercial offering in 2016 making its enterprise solution available.[9] As of 2018 Graylog has grown to over 35,000 installations worldwide.[9] Graylog released its first commercial offering in 2016 making its enterprise solution available.[9]

Graylog is funded by 6 investors.[10] In October 2014, Mercury made its initial investment in Graylog.[11] e.ventures and Mercury Asset Management are the most recent investors. The other investors were Crosslink Capital, Draper Associates and High-Tech Gründerfonds.[12] Aziz Gilani, a director at the Mercury Fund, says “Mercury Fund is excited about making big data analytics accessible to IT departments without restrictive license agreements just to turn a system on.”[13] Graylog has raised a total of $9.4M in funding over 3 rounds. Their latest funding was raised on Jun 13, 2018 from a Venture round raising another $5M.[10]

Graylog regularly participates in conferences such as DEF CON,[14] DerbyCon,[15] Black Hat USA,[16] NolaCon,[17] and Security BSides,[18] where Lennart is a mainstay.
