One Identity is an identity and access management (IAM) software vendor.[1] The company’s technology is used primarily by organizations in the financial services, retail, government (federal and state/local) and healthcare markets for identity governance, access management, privileged access management and Identity as a Service (IDaaS) capabilities. Its products manage and control user access to networks and to digital resources that are on-premises, in the cloud and in hybrid environments.

One Identity is headquartered in Aliso Viejo, California, with offices in the Americas, EMEA and Asia Pacific. The company has more than 7,000 customers and manages over one million identities at organizations that range from small businesses to global enterprise-size companies and government agencies.[2]

Company/brand history[edit]

One Identity portfolio was developed in 2002 by Quest Software to enter the IAM market.  The company’s initial growth was in the Windows-based enterprise market. Its IAM portfolio includes products that are compatible with UNIX, Linux, Mac and SAP environments.[3]

A series of acquisitions that began in 2007 have contributed technologies and products to One Identity’s offering include:

  • PassGO (2007) for multi-factor authentication and privileged management capabilities.[4]
  • Voelcker Informatik (2010) which included the Identity Manager provisioning and governance solution, which eventually became the centerpiece of the portfolio.[5]
  • e-DMZ (2011) for privileged management solutions.[6]
  • BiTKOO (2011) for context-aware security and web access management capabilities.

In 2012, Quest and its One Identity solutions were acquired by Dell.[7]

In 2016, Quest and One Identity (as well as SonicWALL) were acquired by Francisco Partners and Evergreen Capital[8] and operates as a Quest Software business.

In spring 2017, One Identity LLC became an independent legal entity operating under the Quest Software umbrella and part of the Francisco Partners portfolio of enterprise software companies.[9]

In 2018, One Identity acquired privileged account management (PAM) and syslog vendor, Balabit.[10]
