OpenAgent is an Australian start-up company based in the real estate industry. The independent online platform provides a comparison of real estate agents based on rankings and reviews.[1] OpenAgent is currently based in Alexandria, Australia.[2]

History[edit]

Marta Higuera and Zoe Pointon, former McKinsey & Company consultants, founded OpenAgent in 2012.[3]

In 2013, the company received $400k in their first round of funding.[4] The following year, a group of angel investors, including real estate giant Pete Flint from Trulia, invested $1m into OpenAgent.[5] In 2015, the company secured a $6m investment from Hollard Investments of the Hollard Group.[6] In their most recent 2016 round of funding, OpenAgent received $12m from Reinventure, the Westpac-backed venture capital group.[7]

In both 2014 and 2015, the firm was named a Deloitte Fast 50 Rising Star.[8] In the same years, the company was part of Anthill’s Top 100 Coolest Companies in Australia and SMART 100.[9][10] Also in 2015, Zoe Pointon received the Telstra New South Wales Business Women’s Award in the start-up category.[11] The following year, it was backed as part of Westpac’s 200 Businesses of Tomorrow.[12] In 2017, OpenAgent’s Marta Higuera was selected as part of the Ernst & Young Accelerating Entrepreneurs Asia-Pacific program.[13] Both Zoe Pointon and Marta Higuera were then named regional finalists in Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur Of The Year awards in 2018.[14] The firm has been recognised as part of Deloitte’s Technology Fast 50 for three years in a row from 2016 to 2018.[15][16][17] In 2018, they were also listed as one of The Australian Financial Review’s Most Innovative Companies in the Property & Construction industry.[18]

Services[edit]

OpenAgent ranks real estate agents across Australia. The company calls to pre-qualify property sellers and to determine what they need in an agent before providing a list of suitable options. If a property is sold, the successful real estate agent pays 20% of their commission to OpenAgent.[19] OpenAgent also provides a property valuation service called OpenEstimates.[20]
