Operation Herof 2.0 is a series of ongoing coordinated attacks launched by the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) against Pakistani military and intelligence installations in Balochistan starting from 2 May 2025.
The operation follows the August 2024 Balochistan attacks, designated by the BLA as Operation Herof, and represents a significant escalation in the ongoing Baloch insurgency. The BLA has claimed responsibility for multiple attacks on Pakistani military personnel and intelligence agents, as well as civilians during this period.[56]
Background
The Baloch insurgency has been ongoing since the early 2000s, with various separatist factions, including the Baloch Liberation Army, seeking independence from Pakistan. The BLA has been involved in several high-profile attacks in Balochistan, especially in response to Pakistani military operations.
The escalation of violence in 2024–2025, including attacks on military convoys, intelligence agents, and government installations, marked a significant rise in the conflict's intensity. Operation Herof 2.0 came as part of the BLA and its allies’ struggle for the province of Balochistan’s independence.
Attacks
The operation took place over a various days, from May 2 to today, 2025. BLA militants carried out multiple coordinated attacks on Pakistani military and intelligence targets in several locations across Balochistan.[citation needed]
May 2

BLA fighters ambushed and killed four private guards of Zia Langove.[10]
May 3
During the brief occupation of some parts of Mangocher, the BLA entered and seized facilities including the NADRA office, a judicial complex, a bank, and other government buildings. Weapons and documents were reportedly confiscated before the structures were set on fire. During the assault, the BLA also attacked a Pakistani military camp in the city, resulting allegedly in the deaths of four Pakistani soldiers and injuries to others. The BLA also detained one man during the operation, Abdul Quddus, which they claimed was co-operating with Pakistani forces.[24]
In Khazenai, the BLA says it stopped a police convoy transporting detainees from Gadani to Quetta. Five police personnel, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector, were captured, whilst up to ten prisoners were released. The group stated that those detained are currently facing proceedings in what it referred to as the "Baloch National Court".[24]
May 5
BLA spokesperson Azad Baloch announced that the group had carried out a remote-controlled bomb attack targeting a Coast Guard vehicle in the Tak Tiab area of Jiwani in Gwadar, Balochistan. According to the group, three Coast Guard personnel were killed and two others injured in the blast.[10]
May 6
Seven Pakistani soldiers were killed in a blast from an improvised explosive device (IED) in Balochistan's Kachhi District that was planted by who Pakistani forces described as "Indian proxy" terrorists.[25][58][59] Following this, the BLA later claimed the attack, but stated that the casualties were twelve, amongst them Special Operations Commander Tariq Imran and Subedar Umar Farooq,[5] followed by an additional strike that killed two more soldiers from a bomb disposal squad.[26] Throughout the day, a series of images and videos of Baloch people hoisting their flags after pulling down Pakistani ones were all over social media.[60]
May 7
On the night of May 7, a gas pipeline was blown up in the Tobo area of Dera Bugti District.[9] Baloch Republican Guards Spokesperson Dostain Baloch, said the organization has claimed responsibility.[61]

The BLA managed to briefly occupy the entire city of Mangocher[62] in an operation started as early as May 2.[24] The attack was carried out by the "elite Fateh Squad", in the Kalat district of Balochistan. The attack blocked the Khazinai highway and temporarily trapped the local police personnel within the city.[62] On the same day, the group's spokesman, Zealand Baloch, said in a public statement that the BLA had carried out lightning strikes in 39 places across the region.[63] According to some estimates, "Pakistani soldiers suffered heavy casualties" in the BLA attacks,[63] but no real number was confirmed by either side.
May 11
According to BLA spokesman Jeeyand Baloch, the previously captured 4 agents of Pakistani intelligence, were executed.[11][56]
The BLA bombed a Pakistani military bus, with local sources telling news agency Reuters that at least 11 people were killed and 22 others injured, whilst the BLA claimed that 90 Pakistani soldiers had died in the incident.[29]

In the early morning, a group of armed men of the BLA attacked a Police station in Jusak of Kech district. The attackers disarmed police personnel, seized government-issued weapons and equipment and set the building ablaze. The fighters allegedly had warned the detained police officers before releasing them and burning the facility, thus causing no victims.[57]
The BLA also started targeting Chinese investments and engineers that are working on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in Balochistan.[67]
The Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) claimed responsibility for a coordinated attack targeting civilian infrastructure and security forces. They detonated an improvised explosive device on a telecommunications tower in Kech District, causing significant damage and disrupting mobile services in the area. Shortly after, a second blast targeted a Levies checkpost on the Turbat–Gwash road, damaging government vehicles. The BLF released a statement taking responsibility for both attacks.[8]

No group has claimed responsibility for the incident, however, Pakistan's Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and the Pakistani army blamed "India and its proxies in Balochistan of orchestrating the explosion", with some media outlets directly blaming the BLA.[71][73] Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also blamed India without providing evidence to support his statements.[74] 53 people, including 39 children, were injured in the blast.[54][72] Rejecting Pakistan’s allegation, India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that Pakistan had made it a habit to blame India for its internal issues.[75] MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that, "India condoles the loss of lives in all such incidents." Reactions
National
The Taliban government in Afghanistan has repeatedly dismissed Pakistani accusations that it was allowing its territory to be used by militants or that it supported any insurgent movements.[1]
Simon Harris stated that the Irish Embassy in Islamabad is actively tracking developments in the region and is coordinating with the European Union delegation and other like-minded partners to evaluate an appropriate diplomatic response to the crisis.[78]
Chief Minister Sardar Sarfraz Bugti said on May 14, that an intensifying separatist insurgency in Balochistan was being supported by “state patronage” from Afghanistan. He later added that, “What happened with the Kurds in Türkiye after 40 long years is also where these groups will end up too.”[1] Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, later stated that "there is concrete evidence of India's involvement in terrorism in both Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa", suggesting that the current crisis was actually fueled by India.[2]
On May 12, U.S. State Department spokesperson John Kirby told journalists, “The US Government respects the unity and territorial integrity of Pakistan" and that the nation would not "support independence for Balochistan.”[79]
International organizations
On May 15, Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Aziz Haq stated that the UN stands for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all member states, including Pakistan, so they reject any kind of suggestion to recognize the Republic of Balochistan.[80]
