Opt in

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The term opt-in refers to several methods by which individuals can opt to receive unsolicited product or service information. This ability is usually associated with direct marketing campaigns such as email marketing, or direct mail.

It is the same as if you installed Google Chrome; it shows you a pop-up that asks if you want to receive update information or offers by email, then you check it. And if you are not willing to receive update information in the future, then you can check it out. At this point, if you check it, then actually you are opting in to receive emails from them, meaning they use your email to contact you in the future.
