Optimum Voyage ApS is a Danish maritime software company headquartered in Copenhagen. It develops weather routing and voyage optimization systems for commercial shipping.[1][2]
The company provides voyage-routing and optimization services as a managed service and through an application programming interface that can be integrated into third-party maritime software systems.[3][4]
History
Optimum Voyage was incorporated on 17 December 2015. Its first annual report listed Thor Peter Andersen and Martin Hjorth Simonsen as directors and described the company's main activity as the development and sale of navigation software and services for shipping.[2]
Optimum Voyage participated as a project partner in ShippingLab's Automatic Optimized Coastal Routing project, together with COACH Solutions, FORCE Technology, Weilbach and GateHouse.[5] The project examined how navigational restrictions from electronic nautical charts could be incorporated into route-planning systems. It also considered the export of optimized routes in formats compatible with onboard ECDIS equipment.[6]
In September 2021, Tata Steel announced that it would use technology developed by Optimum Voyage for vessels carrying raw materials to its European operations. The system was intended to analyse weather and sea conditions and support the selection of fuel-efficient routes and vessel speeds.[7]
Services
Optimum Voyage's software uses forecast weather information, vessel-performance data and operational constraints to generate route and speed recommendations. Parameters used in the optimization process can include vessel draft, arrival requirements, fuel costs and weather limitations.[3]
Under its managed-service model, routing information is reviewed and distributed to vessels and shore-based operators. The company also provides its optimization functions through an API for integration into maritime platforms and operational systems.[3][4]
