Organic frequencies

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Organic frequencies refers to music played with instruments designed or tuned to frequencies believed to physically affect the body. The most common of these frequencies is the scientific pitch (A4 432 Hz).

Organic frequencies describes a phenomenon of musicians and music therapists who have been searching for the perfect musical pitch to resonate in harmony with the body.

Background

Before the 20th century, there was no universal standard for musical pitch. Musicians, orchestras, and bands used to tune their instruments according to local traditions or by ear. In the early 20th century, the need for a universal standard grew until, in 1955, the International Organization for Standardization named A4 440 Hz the standard musical pitch, reaffirmed in 1975 creating "ISO 16:1975". Since then it has been known as the common pitch or pitch standard.

The use of this pitch standard was not universally accepted. Different musicians and composers still favored other pitches, ranging from A4 415 Hz to A4 528 Hz. Perhaps the most notable was the Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi, who wrote his Requiem using the official French standard diapason normal pitch of A4 tuned to 435 Hz. Later, he indicated that the scientific pitch, A4 432 Hz, would be slightly better for orchestras[1] and even wrote a letter to the Music Commission of the Italian government. In the letter he wrote:

"Since France has adopted a standard pitch, I advised that the example should also be followed by us; and I formally requested that the orchestras of various cities of Italy, among them that of the Scala [Milan], to lower the tuning fork to conform to the standard French one. If the musical commission instituted by our government believes, for mathematical exigencies, that we should reduce the 435 vibrations of French tuning fork to 432, the difference is so small, almost imperceptible to the ear, that I associate myself most willingly with this."

Today

Many musicians now tune their instruments to other pitches in an attempt to find the perfect one. Both John Lennon and Paul McCartney, in their solo careers, experimented with A4 444, which places the MI note at 528 Hz. Ameriie experimented with A4 528 Hz.[3][4] In 1988, the Schiller Institute initiated a campaign to establish the scientific pitch (A4 432 Hz) as the classical music concert pitch standard.

The advantages of the scientific pitch have also been promoted in energy healing, among others by energy healing pioneer Dr. Barbara Brennan. Dr. Brennan, founder of the Barbara Brennan School of Healing, researched the bioenergetics field,[5] a field that concerns energy flow through living systems, and especially what she calls the "Human Energy Field".[6] In her work, Dr. Brennan studied the effect of light, sound, and electromagnetic radiation on the human body and discovered seven sound frequencies she calls "Chakra Tones".[7] Dr. Brennan argues that these tones have an energizing effect on the human energy field, promoting physical health and well-being. Although the seven tones were gathered individually by Dr. Brennan, without relation to a specific pitch, it was later noted that they could only be played on an instrument tuned to the scientific pitch, further supporting the beliefs of its proponents. Following her work, some music therapists and musicians have started using the Brennan seven tones in music and therapy sessions, as well as adopting the scientific pitch. Many believe the Brennan seven tones and the scientific pitch to be precise frequencies resonating with the body, and the term "Organic Frequencies" is often used to describe them, or more broadly, any pitch believed to affect the body.
