Oscar Carlsson (1928-2017) was a Swedish Engineer who designed the Sholapur hand pump. Oscar was working for Sholapur well Service in Maharastra, India when he designed the hand pump. His pump design inspired the design of India's Mark II hand pumps. Mark II pumps later proved to be a game changer for India's ambition to serve water to its large rural population.[1] With over 5 million pumps installed, Mark II pump is the most used water hand pump in the world
Oscar died at age of 89 in Sweden [2]
