Hosted in the ancient city of wisdom: Kashi, Osmoze by the iconic Department of Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi; Osmoze is a celebration and confluence of knowledge of chemical engineering. With a motto of ‘sharing sapience crossing channels’, Osmoze is one of India’s biggest festivals organized exclusively for chemical engineering students embellished with workshops, case studies, quizzes, presentations, competitions and a cultural night. Osmoze greets like-minded to-be chemical engineers from across the country. An extravagant showcase of competition, innovation, inspiration and acumen, Osmoze cherishes the discipline of Chemical Engineering in its grandest form.
About the Department[edit | edit source]
The department of Chemical Engineering & Technology of IIT(BHU) is the second oldest department in IIT-BHU next to Mining & Metallurgy departments. Established as the Department of Industrial Chemistry in 1921 at BHU and subsequently renamed to the Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology in 1956, the legacy this department holds speaks volumes of the glory of its departmental festival. Having won its very own prestigious position being one of its kind among various technological institutions all across the world, the Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT-BHU has celebrated knowledge and curiosity for a century and continues to do so via Osmoze.
Events[edit | edit source]
Osmoze conducts workshops for the students who are enthusiastic to learn different aspects of Chemical Engineering. This event focuses on giving the knowledge on Chemical technologies developed so far. Workshops that are conducted include Matlab, Comsol and Industrial safety workshops.
Lectures, followed by Interactive Sessions between the renowned personalities and the budding engineers are held to understand the different aspects of Chemical Engineering. Osmoze has privileged to have lectures of Dr. Vasant Bhalodiya, Dr. C.P.Srivastava, Prof. Indranil Manna, Dr. Manu Vora and many more eminent personalities.
Informals have a slight disorientation from the technical field. They consists of various fun events such as Osmo-click, Osmo-cross, trading events, coding events and many more for all the students, which require a basic knowledge of Chemical Engineering but with an innovative implementation.
Competitions[edit | edit source]
Inspired from American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Osmoze has structured this competition. This competition provides real world engineering challenges for the students where they get an opportunity to design and build a small car which derives its power from a chemical reaction.This time Osmoze'18 introduced a change in this event where students have to design a boat instead of car being run by an unconventional source of energy.
One of the brand new event of Osmoze'18, Chem-E-Boat an annual event which will be serving as an opportunity for chemical engineering undergraduates to utilize their knowledge and skills attained through engineering coursework and construct a small-scale boat powered by an unconventional source of chemical energy. Filled with thrill and competitiveness, Chem-E-Boat is going to transform your way of viewing an energy source.
Catering to the perpetual need to optimize the design and operating conditions of industrial operations, Rachna is an event focused on designing and optimization of an industrial production process considering both financial and environmental aspects in verticals of process design, process control, model development, process identification, and real-time optimization.
An exciting management event, Adhyayan is dedicated to the adroitness of case study. Involving solutions that entail stipulating the organizations’ objectives; burgeoning policies and simultaneously outlining plans to achieve them, Adhyayan provides one with an opportunity to showcase analytical skills involving new dimensions of on-the-ground reality and take a leap into the real world of critical case studies.
Industrial Design Problem- Udyog
An event where students muster all their technical knowledge and creativity to come up with an economically feasible solution to challenging industrial company problem. Udyog is a real life event providing loads of firsthand experience on industrial operations.
An experience which challenges Wit and requires grit to conquer with every topic under Sun at stake: The Gopal Tripathi Memorial Quiz promises to be an nail biting affair With the Winner acquiring the much deserved bragging rights.
This is the platform to expose your talent and in-depth knowledge on your interested areas.This event would serve as inspiration for going further into research. Selected abstracts are invited to for a presentation of their work before a group of professors who would offer a critique of each presentation, provide advice and judge your proficiency in that field.
A tinge apart from mainstream technical knowledge Chem-E-Debate brings to an opportunity to showcase debating skills on topics such as environment and ecology, safety and ethical practices in Chemical engineering.
Inspired by the world-popular Ted Talks, ChemX features Entrepreneurs and game-changers in the industry from all over the world share their experience and wisdom in short-20 minutes talks. The pile of wisdom and endless opportunities for interaction make this a must see event.
Campus Ambassador Program[edit | edit source]
Osmoze aim to provide you with opportunities and the platform to showcase your managerial and leadership skills. A Campus Ambassador is the representative of Osmoze in their college and his/her responsibility is to connect with the students who are enthusiastic about participating in the events and competitions associated with Osmoze. We invite applications of students from colleges of chemical engineering.
