Ottawa Independent Writers
The Ottawa Independent Writers (OIW) is a not-for-profit organization[1] representing and serving the literary community in the National Capital Region (Ottawa-Gatineau) in Canada.[2]
Founded in 1986, the OIW is a literary arts presenter, provides professional development to established and emerging writers, is a major funder and organizer of the Prose in the Park Literary Festival,[3][4] sponsors an annual writers retreat, funds and administers the Frank Hegyi Award for Emerging Writers, and publishes an annual anthology of short fiction and poetry.[5] The OIW was co-founded by Ottawa novelists and poets Blaine Marchand and Clive Doucet.[6]
The OIW holds its monthly meetings at the Hintonburg Community Centre in Ottawa, Canada.[7]
