Our Mercury was a Canadian indie rock band. Its members were singer/guitarist Ben Stevenson, drummer John Watson, bassist Daniel Laxer (replaced in 2006 by Joseph Lubinski-Mast), and keyboardist Eric Budd.[1]

History

Members Ben Stevenson, John Watson, and Daniel Laxer first played together in a punk band called Misdemeanor.[2] They gained attention from playing local shows, leading to tours with Guttermouth, Jughead's Revenge, Straightfaced, Good Riddance, and 88 Fingers Louie. This increased their Canadian exposure, introducing them to Cecil English (SNFU, d.b.s., The Smalls), who produced their first independently released album when they were 15 years old.[3]

Changing their name to Our Mercury, they released their album Your Medicine on Edmonton's Farway Records in 2002.[4] For their second recording, Our Mercury signed to Smallman Records[5], who released From Below in 2005.[6] The addition of Eric Budd, formerly of The Operators, brought renewed energy to the albums and live shows[citation needed]. Their signature 70s-tinged punk now included elements of Motown and danceable pop[citation needed].

Laxer departed in August 2006 and was replaced by Joseph Lubinski-Mast.

The band played their final show on August 18, 2007.
