Overlook is an upcoming American supernatural horror web television series produced by Warner Bros. Television and Bad Robot Productions. The series is a spin-off and prequel of the 1997 miniseries The Shining by Stephen King.

Production[edit]

Development[edit]

In September 2019, J. J. Abrams and his production company, Bad Robot Productions, signed an exclusive deal to produce projects for WarnerMedia.[1]

In April 2020, HBO Max announced it will be developing a spin-off series of the 1997 miniseries by Stephen King, The Shining, called Overlook.[2][3][4] However, in August 2021, it was announced that the show would not release on HBO Max, and is currently being discussed to be released on other streaming services.[5] The new series will consist of 10 episodes.[6]

Overlook aims to focus on the untold stories of the Overlook Hotel from the novel, before the Torrance's arrival. J. J. Abrams will produce the series through his Bad Robot Productions banner, alongside Ben Stephenson and Rachel Rusch Rich.[4]
