Owen John Mason (born 24 March 2004) is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Mansfield Town.[3]

Career

Born in Nottingham, Mason played youth football for Notts County, Eastwood CFC and Nottingham City Boys before joining Mansfield Town in July 2020.[4] On 22 October 2021, Mason signed his first professional contract with The Stags.[5] On 3 January 2023, Mason signed a new contract with Mansfield Town until the summer of 2024 – with the club holding an option for a further year.[6] On 7 May 2024, Mason was offered a new contract; which he later signed.[7]

On 11 December 2021, Mason was loaned to National League North side Guiseley for a month,[8] in January 2022, after he had featured five times since joining, the loan was extended for a further month.[9] It was then extended for a further month on 11 February,[10] before it was finally extended until the end of the season.[11]

On 13 September 2022, Owen returned to the National League North as he joined Farsley Celtic on loan for a month,[12] on 11 October, the loan deal at Farsley was extended for a further month.[13] However, the deal was cut short and in December 2022; Mason joined Northern Premier League side Belper Town on loan.[14]

In February 2023, Mason returned to the National League North again as he joined Kettering Town on loan,[15] in March, the loan deal was extended until the end of the season.[16]

On 12 July 2023, Mason was loaned to League of Ireland First Division side Wexford until the end of the season,[17] in February 2024, after impressing during his first loan stint, Mason rejoined Wexford on another temporary deal ahead of the 2024 season.[18] On 2 August 2024, Mason returned to parent club, Mansfield Town; following the conclusion of the loan deal.[19]

On 10 September 2024, a month after returning to Mansfield Town; Mason joined Northern Premier League side Ilkeston Town on loan for a month.[20] In November 2024, Mason jumped up the divisions as he joined National League side Gateshead on loan until 15 January 2025,[21] on 17 January 2025, the loan was extended until the end of the campaign.[22] A month later, Mason was recalled by his parent club, Mansfield after making 15 appearances for The Heed.[23]

On 30 April 2025, Mason made his senior debut for Mansfield Town as he featured in a EFL League One game against Peterborough United; in which The Stags ran out 4–2 winners at The One Call Stadium.[24][25] On 7 May 2025, Mason extended his deal with Mansfield Town for a further year.[26]

International career

Born in England, Mason was also eligible to represent The Republic of Ireland in international football. He has been capped at Under-18 and Under-19 levels; where he earned a combined total of five caps.[27] In August 2023, Mason was called up to the U21's for the first time, ahead of matches against Turkey and San Marino,[28] he was called up again for another Euro qualifier against Latvia U21 in October 2023; but failed to earn his maiden cap.[29][30]
