The Oxford University Cortex Club (OUCC) is the official neuroscience society based at the University of Oxford. It aims to connect researchers at Oxford with world-leading neuroscientists through debates, discussions, socials.
Former distinguished speakers include Colin Blakemore, Giulio Tononi, Anne Churchland.[1], Karl Friston, Peter Dayan, Simon Baron-Cohen, just to name a few[2].
History[edit]
The Oxford University Cortex Club was founded on May 2009 by a group of neuroscience doctoral students spearheaded by Abhishek Banerjee and Dennis Kätzel[3]. Zoltán Molnár, professor of developmental neurobiology at the University of Oxford and tutorial fellow at St John's College (Oxford)[4] has been senior sponsor of this society since its establishment. It maintains an official university club status under the sponsorship of David Bannerman, professor of behavioural neuroscience at the University of Oxford and tutorial fellow at St Edmund Hall[5][6].
The OUCC grew into a unique forum dealing with cutting-edge topics and significant challenges in neuroscience, open to the entire academic community from undergraduates to professors and largely organised by doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers. In order to promote and support neuroscience training and collaborative research, the society organise a variety of events, such as seminars, workshops, symposia, Q&A lunches, panel discussions, socials and podcasts[7][8][9][10]
