P. Rajkumar Pandian (born 28 June 1979) is an Indian politician and lawyer from the state of Tamil Nadu. He is the founder and president of the political party Tamilar Viduthalai Kalam (Tamil Liberation Front) and is known for his activism for the Devendrakula Velalar community. He was a close associate of Pasupathy Pandian and has been involved in various social justice movements.
His political and social activities are primarily centered in the Tirunelveli district and southern Tamil Nadu.
Early life and education
Rajkumar Pandian was born on 28 June 1979 in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. His father, Paramasivan, served as a Superintendent in the District Treasury Office, Tirunelveli. He completed his schooling at Keins Matriculation School (Valliyoor), Rosemary Matriculation School (Palayamkottai), and Magdalene Matriculation School (Santhinagar). Before entering politics, he practiced as a lawyer.
Social activism
Pandian has actively participated in movements supporting the rights and identity of the Devendrakula Velalar community, part of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST) in India. During the 2000s, he worked alongside Pasupathy Pandian in several social justice protests.
He led the “Devendrakula Velalar Name Unification” protest in Nanguneri.[1] He also organized demonstrations in Tenkasi and Puliyankudi related to the construction of the “Vennikaladi Memorial Hall.”[2]
Political career
Pandian entered politics in 1999 through the “Decorum Association,” an organization of government employees supporting SC/ST welfare and the renovation of Immanuel Sekharan’s memorial site.
In 2016, he founded the political party Tamilar Viduthalai Kalam (Tamil Liberation Front), registered under number 40/2016.[3]
He is ideologically aligned with C. N. Annadurai’s principles and Tamil nationalism. His party stands on two primary pillars: social justice and Tamil national identity.
In 2021, the party declared its support for the AIADMK.[4]
Electoral performance
Pandian contested as an independent candidate from the Tirunelveli Assembly constituency in the 2016 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election.[5]
