P. J. Volker (born 1983) is an American football coach who is the safeties coach for the Baltimore Ravens of the National Football League (NFL). Volker previously served as the defensive coordinator at the United States Naval Academy from 2023 to 2025 after spending several seasons as Navy's linebackers coach.
Volker has coached at the collegiate level for programs including Indiana State, Georgia State, Kennesaw State, and Navy. He was reported to be hired by Baltimore in 2026 by head coach Jesse Minter, a longtime friend and former college teammate.
Early life and education
Volker is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended Elder High School in Cincinnati.
Volker played college football at the College of Mount St. Joseph as a linebacker. He was a three-time team captain and a two-time All-Heartland Conference selection.
Coaching career
Early coaching
Volker began his coaching career at Thiel College, where he served as the running backs coach and recruiting coordinator. He later joined Thomas More College in Kentucky, coaching linebackers and serving as recruiting coordinator.
Indiana State
Volker joined the Indiana State staff in 2010 as linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator. During his tenure, Indiana State posted three consecutive winning seasons, and multiple linebackers earned All-Missouri Valley Conference honors.
Georgia State
In 2013, Volker joined Georgia State as linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator under head coach Trent Miles. In 2015, Volker was part of a staff that helped lead Georgia State to its first bowl appearance in program history.
Kennesaw State
Volker was hired by Kennesaw State in 2017 as linebackers coach. During his time with the Owls, Volker coached All-American linebacker Bryson Armstrong.
Volker joined the Navy staff in 2019 as linebackers coach. He was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2023.
In 2024, Volker helped lead Navy to a 10–3 record, victories over Air Force and Army to win the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy, and a bowl victory over Oklahoma in the Armed Forces Bowl.
Baltimore Ravens
In February 2026, Volker was reported to be hired by the Baltimore Ravens as safeties coach under head coach Jesse Minter.
Personal life
Volker is married to the former Amanda Naseef. The couple has two daughters.
