PMISuite is a project management information system (PMIS)[1] that integrates project management[2] with data management (DMS)[3], Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)[4] and collaboration [5], developed by a slovenian project management consultancy company Luxim. The systems main occupation is project management and follows project management guidlines - the five process groups (Initiation, Planning, Execution, Monitoring and Control, Closing) and the 10 knowledge areas. The technology operates on browsers independently of the operating system.

Typically (but not always) PMIS systems contain a collection of management tools, which take systematic approaches on existing or new projects to deliver results.

    Project Management System[2][edit]

    Supported project management knowledge areas:

    • Project Change Management,
    • Project Integration Management,
    • Project Procurement Management,
    • Project Scope Management,
    • Project Time Management,
    • Project Cost Management and Budget Control,
    • Project Quality Management,
    • Project Risk Management,
    • Issue Management and
    • Communications Management.

The ten knowledge areas are standard to most projects. They each represent a set of activities, terms and concepts that make up a professional field. Each knowledge area integrates with the five process groups[6]. This can be viewed in detail in the PMBOK.

Relation between functional manager and project manager:

Project team members write task reports about their progress by using reporting tools. These are then reviewed by the teams functional manager. The functional manager is assigned to multiple phases or tasks that are required to complete the project. The project manager is assigned to multiple projects which he assigns to functional managers. He must be in frequent contact with the functional manager to obtain reports.

    Main functionalities include:

    • Task assigning
    • Analytical views and comparisons
    • Collaboration tools
    • Document management and archiving
    • Project managing and project leading
      • Multiple projects
      • Resource managing
      • Status reporting
      • Gantt chart with parent-child organizing

    Enterprise Resource Management (ERP)[4][edit]

ERP functions for the discussed PMIS include: Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Sales Management, E-Commerce, Communications Management, Stock Management and Human Resource Management. Data is stored in databases. Users with set privileges may view or use certain data, as determined by the system administrator. Information is converted from data and operates in real-time.

    A practical usage scenario:

A functional manager may require a certain amount of resources to complete an assign task by the project manager, so he sends a request to the project manager for additional resources. He uses the integrated communications app of the ERP. The project manager then forwards the request vertically to the project executive where a decision is made.  The project executive uses ERP apps to get sales information regarding budget constraints and stock information regarding the amount of available resources (if the needed resource is man power then the project executive uses a Human Resource Management app). He also checks time constraints, the priority of the project and the expected revenue. If the request is approved, a change is then altered to the project. The project executive assigns additional resources to the functional manager.

    Collaboration Platform[5][edit]

Collaboration software is integrated into the discussed system as a tool to help project teams complete tasks. It gives users the ability to communicate with team members, stakeholders, managers and to host meetings through text chatting, VOIP, web RTC and E-mail.

    Document Management System (DMS)[3][edit]

    Main functionalities include:

    • Version control
    • Document sharing
    • Document indexing
    • Categorizing
    • Document repository auditing
