POD is a not-for-profit community-owned car club in the Calder Valley, in the United Kingdom.
Aims
The purposes of the club include reducing traffic congestion and pollution, and saving people money.[1]
Funding
It was set up with funding from members who took part in its opening share offer, in addition to support from Todmorden Town Council, Hebden Royd Town Council in Hebden Bridge, and Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council’s Calder Ward, in addition to charitable grants.[2][3][4]
Structure
POD has shareholding members, volunteers, and subscription-paying users. It is organised as a co-operative, formally registered as a Registered Society, with number 9379 in the Financial Conduct Authority's Mutuals Public Register.[5]
It is a member of CoMoUK, the UK's national charity for shared transport.
Fleet
The club has five hybrid cars, three Toyota Yaris hatchbacks and two Toyota Corolla estates. These are based in both Hebden Bridge (at three locations), and Todmorden.[2][4]
Technology
It uses the software platform of the European Co-operative, The Mobility Factory to allow app-based access to bookings and vehicles.
