PTAH (band)

PTAH (born Stéphane Rionnet; January 9, 1973) is a French musician and composer. Born and raised in Lyon, France, PTAH started playing guitar in a few bands in 1990. When his last band - De Ku Dilacht - stopped performing, he started his solo work as PTAH in the late 1990s[1].
His first tracks are essentially made from loops, mostly for technical reasons, having a soundcard allowing only a total of 2 MB of samples per track. With the evolution of computers' capacities, he progressively introduced MIDI instruments and finally gave up completely the use of any real instrument (his first track entirely made with MIDI instruments is JFK III in 2011).
In 2013, his biggest success is a cover of a theme from Michel Legrand - Andy (from The Young Girls of Rochefort). This track, released for a contest arranged by the French magazine Les Inrockuptibles for a Jacques Demy exhibition[2], was rejected by the jury but later selected, probably by Mathieu Demy[citation needed].
Since that time, PTAH continues his work, despite being ignored by the media and the public.
Supporter of a fully virtual and free music distribution, PTAH does not release any physical record :
Pourquoi m'enquiquiner à figer des morceaux sur une galette alors que ces morceaux sont du jour au lendemain accessibles gratuitement à n'importe qui ? (Why bother to freeze tracks on a platter when these tracks are available overnight for free to anyone?)[3].
