Pablo Pinedo Bóveda (born 6 February 1980) is a Spanish film director from Vitoria-Gasteiz, Basque Country, Spain, who lives between there and Cape Town, South Africa. He is known for his political films and documentaries which critique the political process in Spain and the limited change for poor Black South Africans in the 25 years since apartheid was abolished.[1][2]

Career[edit]

Pinedo has been a cinematographer in TV and film. He spent four years in Italy learning about Italian Neo-realism and building his skills in cinematography. In 2013 he was selected for the IDFA Academy.[3]

In 2015, he founded EveryWhere Films, a production company that has produced his documentaries and films.

In 2016 he directed and produced the feature documentary Noma, which followed the difficult journey of a young women named Nomaliphathwe Gwele and her disabled son, who occupies land and builds a home within the informal settlement of Marikana in Cape Town.[4] The film was praised for its political content and use of "intimate and personal vignette to humanise the land issue".[5] Noma was awarded the Amnesty International Human Rights Award at the Durban International Film Festival and screened widely on the international festival circuit.[1][6][7][8][9]

In 2022, he completed a short political film in Vitoria-Gasteiz called El Comité (The Committee), which features an unnamed social-democratic political party at a crossroads in its history.[2]
