Machiavelli for Moral People is a book by Pavan Choudary. Published in July 2012 the book[1] is based on the thoughts and philosophy of Italian political philosopher and statesman Niccolò Machiavelli[2]
Background[edit]
Machiavelli is the Father of Realpolitik. A politician and a writer, he wrote his masterpieces The Prince and Discourses on Livy in 16th Century AD. These writings, banned till early 18th century for their controversial and devious content, are now considered the Bible of Realpolitik. History reveals that Machiavelli skimmed only the fringes of philosophy yet the impact of his teachings was widespread and enduring. It shook the foundations of conventional philosophy that goodness would always win. He challenged the beliefs that in order to do well, one must be good. Today, though centuries have elapsed and times have changed, scholars and practitioners have been unable to substantially refute Machiavelli’s dictums.
Summary[edit]
The book is a commentary on Machiavelli’s thoughts and teachings to help recognize and accept the existence of evil in man. It tells the moral man how the evil man thinks and works, and what are the ways and methods to overpower him. The teachings incorporated in this book have been taken from Machiavelli’s works The Prince and Discourses on Livy.
It contains Machiavelli’s thoughts on moral, polity, statesmanship, interpersonal behavior, and importance of being war-ready.[3] Through this book, the author has attempted to explore how, Machiavelli - reviled down the years for promoting deviousness - has actually made an invaluable contribution in enhancing the understanding of evil, which can help the principled person win.
