Palak Sindhwani
Palak Sindhwani (born 11 April 1998) is an Indian actress and social media influencer.[1][2] She gained prominence for her portrayal of Sonalika Aatmaram Bhide (Sonu) in the Hindi television sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah from 2019 to 2024.[3][4] Her work on the show, one of India's longest-running sitcoms, brought her recognition in Indian television.
Early life and education
Sindhwani was born in Manasa, a small town in Madhya Pradesh, India, and belongs to a Sindhi family.[1][5][6] Her father is Vinod Sindhwani.[7]
She completed her higher secondary education and later graduated with a degree in Mass Media from Jai Hind College in Mumbai in 2019 with a GPA of 9.63.[1][8] During her college years, she won the modeling competition "Miss SIES" in January 2018.[1]
Career
Early work
Before her television career, Sindhwani appeared in the 2018 Hindi short film "The Bar" and worked in television commercials for major brands including Google, HP, Amul, and ICICI.[1] She also worked as an assistant director on various casting projects before transitioning to acting.[8]
Television
Sindhwani's breakthrough came in 2019 when she was cast as Sonalika Aatmaram Bhide, commonly known as Sonu, in the popular Hindi sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.[9] She replaced Nidhi Bhanushali, who had left the show to pursue higher studies.[10] According to reports, she began shooting for the show in August 2019 after a six-month search for a replacement.[11]
Her portrayal of Sonu, the studious daughter of Aatmaram Bhide, made her a household name and earned her significant recognition in Indian television.[12] The character is known for being intelligent, well-mannered, and academically focused.

In September 2024, Sindhwani announced her departure from Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah after five years, citing medical issues and workplace concerns.[citation needed] She stated that she had been attempting to leave the show since December 2023 due to health issues but faced resistance from the production team.[17]
In interviews with Times Now and other media outlets, Sindhwani made allegations against the production team regarding working conditions and financial arrangements.[18][19]
The show's producer Asit Kumar Modi disputed her claims and accused her of breach of contract.[20] The controversy received significant coverage in Hindi news outlets.[21]
Sindhwani completed her final shoot in October 2024 and was replaced by actress Khushi Mali.[22]
Personal life
Sindhwani belongs to a Hindu Sindhi family and her father is Vinod Sindhwani.[23] She is trained in classical dance.[8]
She maintains privacy regarding her personal relationships and focuses primarily on her career in entertainment and social media content creation.
