Patrick Mayer (born 5 January 1988), also known as Paluten, is a German YouTuber who is a web video producer especially delights the younger viewers. Paluten gained fame through publication of Lets Play videos and Vlog videos on his YouTube Channel.[1]

Channel[edit]

The "Paluten" channel was founded on October 17, 2012. On October 30, the first video, a Let's Play about the game Need for Speed: Most Wanted, was released. His focus is now on Let's Plays of the game Minecraft, but other Let's Plays of different genres, such as different simulators, and regular Vlogs[2] often appear. His video series "Minecraft Freedom" received special attention and tells a fictional story about Paluten and his mascot, the pig Edgar, in 380 episodes. There were numerous well-known Youtubers, including GermanLetsPlay, Zombey and Maudado (this group is also called "Freedom Squad"), as well as Herr Bergmann, Rewinside and many others further. From October 2016, he maintained an office called UFO ("Ultra/Unser Fettes Office") (EN: Our Fat Office) together with Let's Players Rewinside, Sturmwaffel, Izzi and Dner. In March 2018 Dner announced his move from the UFO, in June 2018 Rewinside and Sturmwaffel moved out. The office was then closed. He has been living in Munich since the end of June 2018.

Books[edit]

On March 29, 2018, his book Freedom. Die Schmahamas-Verschwörung (EN: Freedom. The Schmahamas conspiracy). Paluten published it in the Community Editions publishing house, which specializes in web video producers. It quickly reached first place on the fiction bestseller list for hardcover editions.[3] In August 2018, it was still a bestseller with 11th place.[4] Paluten provided the ideas for the book, which was formulated by the co-author under the pseudonym Klaas Kern, illustrated by Irina Zinner. The plot of the novel takes place in the world of Paluten's successful video series Minecraft Freedom. Paluten published the comic book Der Golemkönig (EN: The Golem King) on June 28, 2019, also published by Community Editions. According to his ideas, Haiko Hörnig wrote the plot, which was illustrated by Irina Zinner. The story revolves around a golem named Iggi who experiences adventure in the world of Minecraft Freedom.

Awards[edit]

In 2017 he was nominated for the Webvideopreis Deutschland in the gaming category. The reason was: "Paluten belongs to the spearhead of the German gaming scene and is one of the most far-reaching web video makers.“[5]
