Panama City Beach Spring Break Gang Rape

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

The Panama City Beach Spring Break Gang Rape occurred in Panama City Beach, Fl during daylight hours in the middle of a large crowd on the beach in March 2015, when a 19-year-old female incapacitated by alcohol and drugs was publicly and repeatedly sexually assaulted by fellow spring breakers, several of whom documented the acts on video posted on social media under the hashtag #PCB2K15[1]. The victim was publicly undressed, photographed, and sexually assaulted. Florida law also prohibits the identification of rape victims in media.[2]

The callous attitude of the assailants and cheering bystanders was documented in cell phone recordings of the acts. The crime and ensuing legal proceedings generated considerable controversy and galvanized local and national conversations about spring break, rape, and rape culture. Two spring breakers, Delonte Martistee, 22, an athlete on the Troy University track team[3], and Ryan Calhoun, 23, were sentenced to 10 years in prison.[4] [5] A third person, George Davon Kennedy, who was reportedly the victim's "boyfriend" at the time of the crime, was arrested, but the charges centering on his alleged encouragement of the rape were later dropped.
