Parathuvayalil Foundation

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Before merging with the erstwhile state of Travancore, Kunnathunadu Taluk (Revenue Sub-district) had been ruled by Edappilly Lords (Edapilly Dynasty), the local chieftains. Later, the Rayamangalam Region came under the rule of ‘Kulangara Akathoottu’ Kurup.

During the 12th century, a young lady of the household of this family was confirmed barren. On the advice of certain people, an offering was vowed that a church be built and dedicated to St. Mary, the Godmother, the Deity of Kanjoor Church in Cochin. Consequently, a child was born to her, and they all embraced Christianity. They began to be known by the family name, ‘Kuruppan’. In sacrifice of the offering, together with the families, namely Edassery, Puthussery, and Padayatty, a church was built, which came to be known as Kuruppampady Church. A member of this family had been the permanent member of the Church committee until 1775.

Later on, this family was divided as Veeppanattu and Puthenpuracka of the 12 Village. Elders who managed the church administration in the 18th century, one was the head of the Veeppanattu family (Veeppanattu Elder). A member of this family, Varkey, and his wife, Aly (Pallikkara Chemmala Family member) moved to Keezhillam and lived on the bank of Parathuvayalil farm fields. They adopted the family name, Parathuvayalil. (Extract from Kuruppampady Church history written by Aathunkal Geevarghese Cor Episcopa)

Their seven sons divided the family land as per Partition Deed No. 3170 of Malayalam year 1076 (Perumbavoor S.R.O.). The houses they built and lived in are known as follows:

Kannodathu, Padinjareveedu, Naduvile Veedu, Kizhakkeveedu, Padinjakkara Veedu, Kizhakke Puthenpura, and Valiyaveedu.

As Parathuvayalil farm fields and its surrounding areas were fertile for agriculture, the patriarchs thrived in their career. They were also interested in spiritual affairs, social activities, and medical care. It was these forefathers of the family who rescued the region by driving away the bandits from the southwestern forests who used to attack and plunder the properties of the people of Keezhillam. These ancestors, who were keen on godly activities, used to call people together under the leadership of Valiyaveettil Ouseph Mathai and conduct Bible classes in his own house on Sundays. This Sunday gathering was the foundation for Parethumukal M.G.M. Sunday School. The Evangelical Convention started by our Patriarchs is the famous Mannoor Convention.

After acquiring academic knowledge on indigenous Neuropathy treatment from the Kuruppans who had been practising it traditionally in the Kanjoor area, our forefathers practised pragmatically and popularized it. Thus, the family name, Parathuvayalil, had become a household name. What was started as native medical clinics and pharmacies developed and sprawled as Neuro treatment centres, Herbal/Allopathy/Homeo/Dental Hospitals, herbal medicine manufacturing and marketing companies, and became world renowned in the Medical field and stands out even today, raising the fame of the Family’s name. It is indeed gratifying to remember that several doctors from the family are offering yeoman services to the society in various fields of medicine.
