Partho Sarothy also known as Partho Sarothy Chowdhury or Partho Sarody, is a sarod player and composer of the Senia Maihar gharana.

Partho Sarothy was born to a Bengali family in Kolkata, India. At the age of eight, Partho began his musical training under his father, late Sudhamoy Chowdhury, who was a disciple of Pt. Radhika Mohan Moitra, a Hindusthani Classical musician.

He continued his journey as a disciple of Ustad Dhyanesh Khan – the son and disciple of the legendary sarod player Ustad Ali Akbar Khan.

In 1980, Partho became a disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar. During this time, he met many prominent musicians including Pandit Prasun Banerjee and Vidushi Meera Banerjee, who later became his parents-in-law.

Career and Performances

At the age of nine, Partho gave his debut performance at the Mohsin College in Chinsurah, West Bengal. He was sixteen when he stood first in the All-India Radio Music Competition and started performing regularly. Partho performed with Pandit Ravi Shankar in the Kremlin Hall in USSR, the Carnegie Hall in the US, the Royal Albert Hall & Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, and other numerous places around the world.

In India, he performed in various musical festivals like the Dover Lane & SRA Music Festival in Kolkata, the Savai Gandharva Festival in Pune, the IMG Fest in Mumbai, the Shankar Lal Festival & Vishnu Digambar Jayanti in Delhi, the Tansen Samaroh in Gwalior, and many more.
