Pasi Kauppinen (born August 19, 1978) is a Finnish musician and producer from Kokkola, Finland. He is best known as the bassist of the power metal band Sonata Arctica since 2013.[1]
Career[edit]
Kauppinen learned to play bass at the age of 13, due his brother's band need a bass player.[2]
Kauppinen cites Dream Theater, Rush, Symphony X, Halloween, Yngwie Malmsteen, Whitesnake, Deep Purple, Slayer, Metallica as his musical influences. And his favourites bassists include Billy Sheehan, Tony Levin, Dave LaRue.[2]
In 2013, Kauppinen joined Sonata Arctica to replace Marko Paasikoski, who left the band due to unsolvable issues with being part of a touring ensemble.[3] He is also the bassist for Winterborn, Silent Voices and the Klingenberg Syndrome project.[4]
Apart from being a bassist, Kauppinen also co-owns the Studio 57 in Kronoby, Finland, where he works as a producer and a studio engineer.[4]
